Time is something which is way more important and valuable than anything else. One cannot get back the time which is gone. Also, one cannot change or stop or alter time as per ones needs. We should treat time as the most important commodity no matter what stage of life we are at.
Time management and utilizing time efficiently is something that provides a ground to your preparation of a competitive exam. Everyone preparing for a competitive exam is heard blaming time or discussing time issues when anything bad happens related to the exam. What if we learn the tricks to manage the time efficiently?
The secret to manage time like a pro is to focus on important things and to do that, you need to prioritise things according to their level of importance. It is not uncommon of humans to get distracted by trivial things which attract ones attention naturally. Time management skills teach us how to control urges and avoid such distractions. Let’s go through some important tips for time management when you are preparing for a competitive examination:
1. Schedule and Time Table
When preparing for a competitive examination, it is very important for you to have a proper schedule and a time table. First, jot down complete syllabus that you need to study and then prepare a time table accordingly leaving enough time for revision. This would give you a clear idea about what you have to study and help you prioritise and optimize which we will know in next point.
2. Prioritise and Enhance
When we are preparing for a competitive exam, there are obviously a lot things that need to be studied which puzzle our mind time and again and that is where we end up miss managing the time. This problem or issue can be best catered if we learn to prioritise things. Make a list of 3-4 most important things (according to priority and time one demands) you need to do for the day and give your best to accomplish it. It would provide a sense of accomplishment and also act as a confidence booster thus increasing efficiency and effectiveness.
3. Track Your Time
To begin with, track your time for a few days. This would help you know the quantum of time you are devoting to everything you do in a day. Many a times, we tend to believe that we devote a lot of time to studies and even then results are not favourable. Tracking your time would help you know if this belief is a myth or reality. It might be the case that you are actually not devoting as much time to the studies as think you are. Once you know the reality, you can manage time accordingly by allotting genuine time to all the things you do in a day including studies.
4. Focus – Key to Success
While you are studying, what matters the most is Focus. In order to achieve efficiency and effectiveness, you need to be focused. For example: if you were supposed to devote 2 hours to chapter x and you do the same but, with lack of focus, then it is equivalent to studying nothing or very less. If you think you are not as focused as you should be or you are unable to stay focused, talk with your mentor or whoever you think is the best person to talk to. The same might be your teacher/parent/friend or anyone else.
5. Relax Your Mind
While preparing for competitive exams, we often become anxious thus losing control of mind. This ends up in miss management of time which is obvious. It is very important to study with a relaxed mind. You can do so by doing activities that interest you. It may be listening to music, long walk, jogging, talking to a friend or going to gym. It is very important to free your mind of any kind of tensions and anxiousness.
6. Take Breaks
Many of us study at a stretch for long hours which is a very wrong strategy. Breaks must be included in our time table. Regular breaks while studying would help keep you active and fresh for long duration.
Time isn’t the main thing. In fact, it’s the only thing. It’s all how about how you manage your time. So, go ahead and make every moment count!
